Evaluation of Dorsalis Pedis Artery Calcification in Relation to Duration of Diabetes

چکیده

Introduction iabetes mellitus (DM) is a multisystem disorder often associated with peripheral vascular disease. The disease is a common cause of small vessel vasculopathy, hence accounting for atherosclerotic disease is often more diffuse in diabetics, with severe involvement of the distal small vessels. Peripheral vascular disease in diabetics is severe and extensive. Despite advances in our understanding and treatment of diabetes mellitus, diabetic foot disease remains a formidable problem.

Anatomical study of Dorsalis pedis Artery and Its Clinical Correlations

INTRODUCTION To evaluate patients with arterial disease, palpation of peripheral arterial pulse is commonly used. In lower limb, palpation of dorsalis pedis artery is used to evaluate the arteriosclerotic diseases. Dorsalis pedis artery is the main source of blood supply to the foot. A knowledge about the origin, course and branching pattern of this artery is essential, as it forms the stem for...

Ankle-to-brachial ratio index underestimates the prevalence of peripheral occlusive disease in diabetic patients at high risk for arterial disease.

Ankle-to-brachial ratio index (ABI) is a simple method recommended for screening and evaluating peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) severity in diabetic patients. However, it has been suggested that subclinical media artery calcification could falsely normalize ABI (1), and prevalence of effective arterial occlusive disease when arteries are not compressible is not clear (2). Therefore...

Posterior Tibial Artery as an Alternative to the Radial Artery for Arterial Cannulation Site in Small Children: A Randomized Controlled Study.

BACKGROUND We evaluated the posterior tibial artery as an alternative arterial cannulation site to the radial artery in small children. METHODS A two-stage study was conducted. First, we evaluated the anatomical characteristics of the posterior tibial artery compared with the radial and dorsalis pedis arteries. Next, a parallel-arm single-blind randomized controlled study compared the initial...

Retrograde pedal access with a 20-gauge intravenous cannula after failed antegrade recanalization of a tibialis anterior artery in a diabetic patient: a case report

Retrograde tibiopedal approach is being used frequently in below-the-knee vascular interventions. In patients with diabetic foot pathology, complex anatomy often requires a retrograde technique when the distal vascular anatomy and puncture site is suitable. The dorsalis pedis and posterior tibial arteries can be punctured because of their relatively superficial position. We report a retrograde ...

Doppler Ultrasound Detection of Preclinical Changes in Foot Arteries in Early Stage of Type 2 Diabetes

BACKGROUND There are few reports regarding the changes within the vessels in the initial stage of type 2 diabetes. The aim of this study was to estimate the hemodynamic and morphological parameters in foot arteries in type 2 diabetes subjects and to compare these parameters to those obtained in a control group of healthy volunteers. MATERIAL/METHODS Ultrasound B-mode, color Doppler and pulse ...
